BIASED SURVEY SHOWS CENTRE FORUM NOT INTERESTED IN PUBLIC'S VIEWS
Ealing Conservatives today attacked a biased survey distributed to Ealing residents this week as further evidence that the Ealing Centre Forum has made up its mind on the future of Ealing town centre. The survey is made up of loaded questions designed to elicit opinions that are in line with the pre-conceived views of the Forum.
Residents are asked to agree or disagree with a series of loaded statements such as:
"There should be new offices in the town centre to provide more jobs."
and
"I would spend more money in Ealing Town Centre if there was a larger range of shops, including another department store."
Leader of the Ealing Conservatives, Cllr Ian Green said:
"The statements are loaded to make it as difficult as possible for people to disagree with them. This 'survey' is no more a marketing device to manipulate public opinion - there is hardly any pretence of objectivity.
"It is a disgrace that public money is being used to deviously persuade people into accepting large-scale development in Ealing. All the indications from petitions, letters to the paper and views of local councillors indicate that people do not want to spoil the present character of Ealing.
"Large scale development of offices and another department store in Ealing threaten existing shops with demolition, will exacerbate traffic problems, and mean further disruption for residents. The Centre Forum and the Council would do better to listening to people's concerns rather than inventing ways of getting the answers they want."
